Starting position
With Smart City Lab, the smartest area in Switzerland is to be created in Basel. Elektron, Signify and SWISSTRAFFIC are jointly developing new concepts to increase traffic-dependent lighting control, energy efficiency and safety.
Smart City Lab Basel opens
The canton of Basel-Town and the SBB work together on the future: the initiators want to shape the mobility and the cities of tomorrow. The key focus is on cooperation and networking with other partners. By 2024, Smart City Lab Basel will offer around 160,000 m2 of space for smart city pilot projects and bring ideas, knowledge and people together to tackle today's and tomorrow's challenges.
First partnerships and pilot projects in the field of mobility, city logistics, lighting control, energy, traffic counting and 3D data are already active on the Wolf site. These companies provide an IoT platform with integrated light control from Elektron, or recognize and count more than ten different vehicle classes with SWISSTRAFFIC precision area lasers.
